A Tribute to Dean Henshall

Today – 12 February 2010 a young boy should have become a teenager.  However, on 30th October last year his brave parents had to take the decision to turn off his life support machine.

Dean had a rare form of epilepsy and was taken into hospital after a prolonged seizure. He had suffered many seizures in his life, and his family hoped this would pass.  Unfortunately, he lapsed into a coma and died a short while later.

The condition is genetic and his elder sister, Lucy (14) suffers from an even more rare and severe type of epilepsy called Dravet’s Syndrome.

Dean, however, was mainly in good health, he enjoyed school life, was a boy scout and loved poetry, performing and Liverpool FC.

That is why his sudden death came as a devastating shock to his loving family and friends.

Dean had always been promised a party to celebrate his 13th Birthday, and his Mum Sheila kept this promise.  It will be a celebration of his life, and a tribute to a wonderful lad.

There will also be a spectacular fireworks display by Heavens Above Fireworks which will launch Dean’s ashes skyward.

A Facebook page was set up after Dean died as a tribute to him, but also to raise awareness of the condition that he suffered from.  For every fan that the page has a donor will give 10p per person.  Please consider becoming a fan at Facebook.com/Deanhenshall

Dean is my cousin and his amazing Mum is my Aunty Sheila.  I am so proud of all that she has achieved and all the work she has done in a very emotional and traumatic time.
