The Gallery:One day in August

This weeks gallery prompt from Tara at Sticky Fingers is a little bit different, rather special and very important.

On Sunday 29th August, three fellow bloggers, JosieSian and Eva – set off to Bangladesh to see first hand the work Save the Children is doing. To report back on the successes and to raise awareness of the press for change campaign.

The Gallery is One Day In August, where we all provide a snapshot of what is going on in our lives on this day. A day where we aren’t worrying about the water our children are drinking, where our next meal is coming from or how to provide shelter for our family.

We went for a family walk, 1 year old, 6 year old, dog, hubby & me. It was a beautiful end of summer day. We have some lovely walks on our doorstep, and we were looking forward to a Sunday lunch at a local pub, with family.

Our 6 year old was on her bike, she would cycle off, turn round and cycle back to us. I lost count of the number of times I said, don’t go too far, don’t go out of sight. We rounded a corner, expecting her to be in front of us. She wasn’t. We sped up, we reached a gate. We shouted her, we stood and listened, we looked in every direction. We shouted her. I started to panic, I ran to the next corner. No sign of her. I started to run home, around the lake, over the bridge, across a road! You may know the feeling, running every imaginable worst case scenario through your mind. I was thinking Police, neighbours searching, all the what ifs. I ran all the way home, stopping to ask people if they had seen her. I rounded the corner to our house… Pink bike outside the door, and she had let herself in.

It was one of those moments where you don’t know whether to kiss them or wallop them. After I had shouted, cried, warned her of the dangers, I then just had to take time to reflect and be grateful. All children are precious and deserve a chance in life. Take a moment to sign the petition for the press for change campaign.

N.B.  No T.V, computer or cycling is also helping my 6YO reflect on why you can’t cycle home if you get bored of Mum taking a photo which isn’t of you.

It hasn’t happened to me yet – but it will & I am totally unprepared for it – how do you prepare for them disappearing??? Thank goodness she was ok!
Lovely pic of the LM by the way :-)

Lovely photo as usual!

God the second when you think they are lost lasts a lifetime and your heart stops :( Never want that to happen to me ever again!

Oh berlimey, that must have been scary. I "lost" my 5yo the other week – it turned out he was in the house across the road playing Wii games but had not told me. In the meantime, as he had gone OUT to play, I'd walked around the estate, in minor panic mode.

Anyhow, lovely pic. My pix featured no children for a change this week – was child free on the day so had to settle on a building!
