A treasured possession

Today’s Friday Club Carnival from Notes at Home is a Treasured Possession.

I chose my childhood bear. It’s probably the oldest thing I own that was mine. I think it was given to me when I was born so is doing well considering it is thirty *cough* eight years old. It is well loved (worn out). Has endured a chewing from our childhood dog (a crazy beagle called Tess), and has had a bit of cosmetic surgery, courtesy of my mum. Buttons for eyes and lots of stitching.

I can’t imagine any of my children keeping something like this through into adulthood. They do seem to have far too many possessions that would be lucky to make it until the end of the week, let alone the end of child hood.

My neighbour has just caught me taking photos of Ted through the conservatory window. She thinks I’m mad already, I have just confirmed her suspicions!

Here are the other entries in this carnival:

Making It Up gives us her favourite cherished items.

Scribbling Mum tells us about her photo wall.

Make Do Mum writes about a precious item in Tick tock tick tock.

Cheeky Wipes gives us her cherished item in Tables Aren’t Just For Eating At….

Red Ted Art tells us about her DIY Hobby Horse.

Snipsnaphappy tells us about her cherished item in My Granny’s needle.

I Need Curtains for the Window inside my Head writes about the pieces of jewellery that mean the most to her.

Tiddlyompompom tells us about Adopted Ted.

Cass at The Diary of a Frugal Family shares her family’s most Special Things.

Mymumdom posts about A Small Boy’s Treasure.

Notes From Home posts about her cherished reclaimed box.

My brother in law who is in his late 40's takes a gang of cuddly toys with him on all his travels. They all have names (& personalities according to him). Woe betide any children who try to take any of them home with them. I'd be delighted if my son still had a strong caring attachment to a teddy when he is 8, a definite sign of independence and not bending to peer pressure.

Thanks for stopping by, I'm now following your blog too. I loved the soap post, a great idea to use an old crock pot – inspired. I look forward to following your adventures and seeing lots of lovely sunshine(we are rather lacking in that in UK). Cx

So I must share, my 8 year old son asked me the other day if it’s okay for 8 year olds to still have their bears. He has had his Budgy since he was born. I looked at him and said “of course”!! He takes his Budgy almost everyone and it shows. One of the benefits of homeschooling is allowing kids to be themselves without any external pressure to be anyone else, but I think this question arose after a sleepover with friends (who go to school). Long story short, I showed my son this post. He was thrilled to see it and has just run to find Budgy… Thank you :).

oh he is GORGEOUS! I love teddies, and it has taken this week's theme to remind me :)

I had a knitted toy when I was a girl but I would have loved a teddy bear and I'm quite certain I would still have it now – there's something really special about a bear that has grown up with you :)

Ah, you and your teddy are nothing but youngsters! My teddy is *cough* 60! A bit thin and threadbare but he's my Teddy. Your neighbour probably just thinks you are a professional photographer! No reason for him/her to fear madness, surely?

I love your bear! I still have mine too – Bunny Robinson he is called :)
Great photos, worth the reputation with the neighbour! :))

He has a good look about him that Ted. I totally agree about what you said about your own kids saving something special. I think I've probably forced my two to have a special toy so that they do! Although Stinky Rabbit and Miffy are already looking rather tinky, not sure they'll last 30 years…

So many teddies! I'm going to have to reclaim my Big Ted.
