Log draught excluder from an old pair of cords – see it to believe it! #Pinaddict Challenge

You know Pinterest don’t you? The addictive time drain, where you spend so much time looking at all the beautiful things in the world you forget to eat? Well, Kerry over at Mylovebumps has set a monthly challenge, whereby you actually make something off your Pinterest board and join up with her #pinaddict linky.

I saw this draught excluder before Christmas and loved that it was made from an old pair of cord trousers (which I just so happened to have in my wardrobe). It is from Betz White’s Sewing Green, which is a gorgeous craft book from re-purposed items.

This is the original image I found.

This is my finished article (although I am going to add one of the belt loops from the cords so that it can be hung on the door handle when not in use). I managed to squeeze the whole thing out of one side of the jeans, so in theory, I do have enough left to make a matching one.

When I was making it yesterday afternoon, I had just finished stuffing it (with old carrier bags, socks with holes in and socks missing their partners), my two year old walked in and said, ‘that’s incredible’, I laughed and said ‘really’, he got embarrassed and said ‘no, not incredible that’s not what I meant’. Everyone’s a critic, eh?

Scraps of fabric for leaves on a felt background. You might recognise the spotty stuff as being very similar to a certain Giraffe’s tie

Thank you. Loved making it, love tripping over it ;0)

Ah thank you, but don't be daft. Easy to follow a pattern that requires the sewing of 2 straight lines, anyone can do that ;0)

FrecklesFamilyNo Gravatar - February 10, 2012 - 6:46 pm

I can't tell you how easy it was. I only had to sew 2 straight lines. It is all a little bit imperfect and rustic as a log should be, yes?

Thank you lovely, it was such fun to make.

I've loved seeing all the different things. Can't wait to see next months. It's growing and growing.

I've loved seeing so many different things. I'm definitely making some of your tissue covers and the plate stand is genius. I've a box of old plates that belonged to my Gran, a much better use for them than sitting in a box.

LOL! Yes, we've had lots of big log jokes here too!

I'm quite a crap crafter really, this was SO easy to make. I only needed to sew 2 straight lines and stuff it full of tat ;0)

Ooh, that is quick. I keep seeing lovely patchwork everywhere at the moment. There's a gorgeous one in Mollie Makes this month too. Maybe it's a sign? I'll hunt you down if I get stuck. ;0)

Thank you Kelly, really enjoyed making it and it makes me smile when I see it by the door.

Thanks Jen, I thought you'd approve. Ticks a few thrifty boxes and saves energy. It is full of shredded carrier bags, odd socks and bits of rag.

You were kind enough to look at my blog and leave a nice comment so I came to look at yours. I love your draft excluder it’s so cute!I love the detail you put on it.

In answer to the question you asked me on my blog no the cushion didn’t take long at all I did it after work on 2 evenings. I probably could have done it in one night. It is very easy today especially with my machine.

Ha! It would be so much easier with a blokes pair of trousers. I had to eek ever spare cm out of these, but they were a size 6.Great fun making it. I actually have added the fungi too now, but was too dark to take new photos.

My husband is a huge fan of cords, so I bet I can find an old pair somewhere in his closet. I'll have to give this a try!
