Basel Tart – A culinary trip to Switzerland

I was invited by Titan Travel to join in with their supper club this month. They are visiting Switzerland and on the menu is a Basel tart, which is a tasty Gruyere cheese and onion tart. You can find the full recipe card here.

The recipe involved LOTS of onions, and I was a bit worried about how many I was chopping, but it was a perfect amount in the final tart.

The pastry turned out well and although the recipe didn’t ask for the case to be blind baked, I think I would do that next time. It was still ok and didn’t have a soggy bottom, but I would have preferred it to be a little bit more crisp.

All the ingredients smelt mouthwatering delicious even before they were baked.

Going in the oven…

Cooled down and turned out…

Served up for tea. It got a thumbs up, especially from the two elder children but even the 4YO ate it up too.

There was enough to make a 10″ tart as called for in the recipe which fed us amply as a family of five, and as an added bonus I also had enough filling and pastry to make a smaller one too, which my parents gladly took off my hands.

Disclosure: I was sent a gift card to cover the cost of the ingredients for the recipe

kath knitty mummy - That looks delicious. I think I’ll make that for dinner this weekend – it would be great on a hot day with a salad
